Why I'm pledging
On Thursday 12th May I will be stepping into the boxing ring for the first time. I’ve been training twice a day since January to make sure I get in the best possible shape. This is a totally new experience, and a fantastic opportunity to raise money for a charity which is very close to my heart.

I’m raising money for a charity called RAPT, or the Rehabilitation for Addicted Prisoners Trust.

RAPT helps prisoners and ex-prisoners lead positive lives free from drugs and crime. Today they are the leading provider of intensive, abstinence-based drug and alcohol rehabilitation programmes in UK prisons.

The mentality and behaviour of drug addicts is completely irrational as long as they remain in the grip of such an insidious and all-consuming disease as addiction. Without structured help, these people have no hope of recovering, and no hope of escaping cycles of addiction and criminality.

Using drug addicts cost taxpayers £16bn last year. The only way to bring this number down is to help addicts escape the vice-like grip of drug-dependency. One using drug addict can cost the taxpayer £800,000 over a lifetime. As a country we need fewer drug addicts, and charities like RAPT work tirelessly towards this goal.

Your donation will help RAPt run more prison based programs and support more recovering addicts in their communities, which will reduce re-offending, only 31% of RAPt completers were reconvicted within 1-year.

As part of this pledgit campaign Eastcheap Charitable Trust will be matching any donation up to the first £300 and £5 of every ticket I sell will be donated to RAPt.

Please give as generously as you can, with your help we change lives.

Thank you
Hamish
